Guide Gilbert & Gaillard

Description Deep in southern Italy, Puglia is a haven for authentic, rich reds that over deliver for the price. Our Buyer Leo was particularly pleased to bag this wine – a fabulous, rich, rare Riserva with 10 years' age. The wine is named after its winemaker Leonardo Palumbo. He explained it's a rule of his family that you only put your name on the label of a wine you are really delighted with. He certainly is with this treasure. It's pure Nero di Troia, its thick skins giving it the potential to age. It was matured for a full 18 months in oak barrels for complexity and the rest of the time in bottle. With aromas of ripe berries, violets and star anise, the wine is intensely flavoured with dark fruits and spice. Best with grilled meats or a casserole.
