Description The word ‘Nacional’ is reserved for treasures that fly the flag for Portugal. Touriga Nacional certainly does that. A decade ago the Freitas family planted the grape on their acclaimed Fava vineyard. Since 2015, it has produced a wine so special that it's bottled under the vineyard name and has won 15 Golds. That makes it over 70 Golds in 12 years for this fine family estate. Dating back to 1920, Casa Ermelinda Freitas is run by fourth generation winemaker Leonor Freitas. She has been awarded a ‘Comendadora’ for her services to Portuguese wine and her daughter, Joana, is following in her footsteps. Aged in barrel, this rich red is packed with spicy berry, herb and mineral character. Open early and serve with roast meats or a rich casserole.
