Description
Two Masters of Wine, Giles Cooke MW and Fergal Tynan MW, met in a bar the night before they began the first year of the Master of Wine course in 1998. Eventually after passing the exam, they came to work together, founding Thistledown in 2010. Here, with the help of Peter Leske they handcraft small batch wines like this Triple Trophy winner. James Halliday notes that Giles has particular affection for Grenache, and is precisely right (in my view) when he says, “McLaren Vale Grenache is world class.”
“Hand-picked, wild-fermented, 33% layered passive whole bunch, half in a concrete pyramid egg, the remainder with 20% whole bunches, then a barrel selection. Delicious grenache, fresh and juicy, with a skein of fruit and oak tannins. 95pts” (Halliday).
