Description One of Italy’s top wine consultants, Mario Ercolino is the man behind this exciting ‘Super Sicilian’ red. The grapes are from two small estates in western Sicily – Cabernet and Merlot from Menfi, where deep, mineral rich soils impart complexity to each variety – the Syrah and Sangiovese from Sciacca. The latter two are grown in neighbouring vineyards overlooking the sea, where they achieve excellent ripeness. Mario matures a little of each in small American oak barrels for six months then sets to work blending the four – tasting and re-tasting until the wine is just right. Saserello is a wonderfully rich, complex and elegant red with plenty of upfront fruit and a long finish. Enjoy with a roast, or a spicy bean and chorizo casserole.
