Description
Eden Valley’s Mountadam Vineyards was established in 1972 and is nestled on a unique rocky outcrop ranging in elevation up to 550m. The vineyards were founded by David Wynn, who is credited with several milestones in winemaking, including the creation of the wine cask and planting the first contour vineyard in Australia. While Mountadam can boast being the “foremost producer of chardonnay in the Eden Valley” (Halliday), it’s their deeply layered, textural red blends that are creating the most excitment amongst the trade - like this one right here.
"A 52/48% blend of merlot and cabernet that spent 18 months in new French barriques. It is pleasant surprise that the oak doesn't dominate, rather simply frame, the fruit. This is a thoroughly enjoyable medium-bodied blend that will give pleasure whenever you tackle it...94pts" (Halliday).
