Description Merlot thrives in the vineyards of northwest Sicily, producing a wide range of delicious styles, from rich and deep to light and easy-going. This is bang in the middle. It comes from the Colomba Bianca winery and was made under the auspices of our old friend Giorgio Flessati. His CV includes making terrific wines from northern Italy and also many Trophy winners from Viña Falernia in Chile’s cutting edge Elqui Valley. Named after the local herdsmen who graze their sheep and goats on the high pastures near the vineyards, Mandriano has gentle, plummy fruit and silky smooth tannins. A ripe, fruity and gorgeously juicy red that’s perfect for everyday drinking, especially with barbecued meats, pasta dishes and Italian cheeses like Pecorino.
