Description Lying between the craggy Cévennes mountains and the Rhône and Ardèche rivers, the Ardèche is well situated to make ripe, fruity wines with a juicy freshness. The only surprise is that this region’s wines remain so little discovered. Maybe it’s something to do with the precipitously steep gorges and unnervingly windy roads, which take a long time to travel. Our friendship with the Valvignères cellar dates back to 1988, when Tony Laithwaite knocked on the door and requested a tasting. He was impressed. Luc Tallaron was the young winemaker, still is, a well travelled one at that having made wine in Chile, Bordeaux and Venezuela! His rosé is a blend of native grapes, cool fermented for fruity freshness. Delicious solo; versatile with food.
