Description Beautiful Château de Jau is today one of the finest estates in all Languedoc Roussillon. It was founded in 1792, but its revitalisation began in the 1980s, by current owners Jean and Bernard Dauré. Locals came to watch in amazement as, in 1983, the couple started clearing the 26 hectares of vines on the plateau, smashing up the rocks and replanting the land with Grenache and Carignan. Who would spend so much energy and expense on old Roussillon vines? But Jean and Bernard were aiming for the top and with the many awards they receive each year, they seem to have realised their dream. They grow 11 native varieties on the estate to make a range of superb wines of all hues and styles. Château de Jau is their top red - dense, spicy and long.
